When buying a new car there are many different choices and decisions to be made. There are family cars, fuel efficient cars, 4x4s, sports car…the list is endless. However, the most important thing is that you buy the one which suits your lifestyle.

Price

First things first; the price of the car should be your first consideration when it comes to buying a car that suits your lifestyle. If you’re a financial high flyer, or live by a more laid back part time work ethic then your choice of car will differ greatly. However, whilst clear playing a role in your decision, price does not limit your choice as much as many people think as those who want something that lets the wind blow through their hair or that turns heads in the street still have quite a few options on a limited budget.

At What Speed Do You Live Your Life?

This aspect of someone’s lifestyle so often plays a major part in their decision regarding which type of vehicle to buy. Those who are always in a rush, have somewhere to be or live for an adrenaline rush always look towards buying a speed orientated vehicle, while parents and the more conservative drivers will be looking more at safety features.

What Is Your Car For?

This should be one the most important things to ask yourself when you buy a new vehicle to suit your lifestyle. Is your vehicle going to be used for commuting to work, transporting children or is it simply going to be your plaything for the weekends? This will undoubtedly be an important part of your decision as trying to take three kids to school in a sports car is a difficult task, whilst trying to attract women with an unflattering family saloon is a similarly unrivalled challenge.

The Environment

Your lifestyle views regarding the environment will play a huge role in deciding which vehicle suits your lifestyle the best. Those that are more conscience of damaging the environment and see global warming as an avoidable danger will certainly not be looking to purchase a new Hummer whilst similarly those who do not view the topic as a major issue should steer away from the unnecessary purchase of a new environmentally friendly Prius Hybrid. Your lifestyle plays a huge role in which car you buy and by ensuring that you get the one which suits your lifestyle will ensure you have no regrets.

From the islands to the highlands, the UK has much to offer on a road trip and the small size of the country means that it doesn’t take much time to see it all.

Great UK road trips around the coast

The UK’s coastline offers everything from rugged cliffs, to stony beaches, to white sands peppered with quaint seaside towns. A trip around the Norfolk Coast is well recommended if you want to take in the sea air. The Norfolk Broad nature reserves are the highlight of this road trip, but also you can see some seaside town action in the busting resorts of Hunstanton and Cromer.

For a really upscale the UK coastal road trip, travel from London to Brighton and Hove, where you’ll see a seaside city that truly comes to life at night. From Brighton, travel west along the coast to explore Portsmouth and Southampton, where you can see the magnificent New Forest. If you plan it well into your itinerary, you could even take the ferry across to the Isle of Wight.

Another UK coast not to miss is the Welsh coastline. Starting at Cardiff, head to the vibrant Barry Island then journey round to Swansea. Further north, the Liverpool to Blackpool route is also full of fun.

Great UK road trips inland

For a truly adventurous inland road trip, the Scottish Highlands offer unique terrain, beautiful landscapes and plenty of interesting places to stop off. The Glenfiddich distillery in Dufftown must be tried if you are stopping overnight!

If you like seeing quaint chocolate box towns, take a drive through Yorkshire heading toward the city of York itself, which has a plethora of ancient buildings and forts. The Cotswolds also prove a beautiful, winding-road adventure, with stretches of farmland, giant cottages, and even the chance to do a bit of celeb-spotting.

For a more urban road trip experience, take a trip from Liverpool to Leeds, stopping off at main towns such as Manchester and Halifax. With more time, you could carry on your journey up the A1 to Harrogate, Darlington and eventually Gateshead, spotting the Angel of the North on the way, and even further onward across the Scottish Border. Of course, for the very daring, John O’Groats to Land’s End is the ultimate in UK road trip!

For many people, having a car is so not much a choice but rather a requirement. Whilst the best way to pay for a new purchase is an outright cash deal, this is simply not an option for so many people nowadays, particularly with the current economic situation, but thankfully there are other options available. Whether the vehicle is needed to commute to work or take children to school there are many types of financing options available to help people buy a new or used car.

Do Your Research

Before making any hasty decisions on which car you want or how you are going to pay for it, the most important thing to do is to do some research. Think about exactly why you need to make the purchase and just how important it really is. The next thing that you should do is talk to a specialist car finance broker. They will be able to give objective advice which ensures that no regrettable rash decisions will be made as well as informing you of all of your options and giving you the general costing available to you. This is an important step in securing finance for your purchase and really should not be skipped. The final thing to do before securing your finance is to thoroughly check over your own finances. Make sure that you know exactly how much you can afford and know that no matter what you will not agree to anything over this limit, even talk to your accountant about this too if you have one.

Shop Around

The worst mistake people can make is simply turn up at their local car dealership and get talked into buying something that is out of their budget. Securing your finances and securing your car really shouldn’t be done at the same place if you want the best deal. By visiting multiple dealerships, banks and credit unions and securing finance before making a purchase people, you ensure that you get both the deal you want and the deal that you know is the very best on the market. As long as you take your time and shop around enough securing finance to purchase a car should not be too troubling or too mean feat.

After many years of talk, development and some false starts the future of electric cars remains uncertain, yet still somewhat full of hope. Leading professionals’ attempts at predicting the success of electric cars in the future remains somewhat similar to predicting the weather, with an average success rate yet never quite sure whether there is a violent storm or summer heat wave just around the corner.

So Far

To think about the future of electric cars we must first look at its history, and despite several years of talk, promises and people heralding the success of electric vehicles as imminent, the fact remains that so far they have had little success within the current car market overall. Many electric prototypes and hybrids have spent years in car shows without actually coming into fruition, whilst those that have been released have fared little better. Just last year the future of the electric car was hailed as bright once more with the release of the Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan Leaf, cars that were finally released into the mass market at an affordable price. However, since the release of these two vehicles spirits have once again dampened as sales for the Volt and Leaf have disappointed with combined sales of less than 20,000 cars making an insignificant impact of the overall market of 12.8 million cars.

Remaining Positive

Despite all of the setbacks that electric cars have already faced there does remain a somewhat positive feeling surrounding their future. All of the major car manufacturers around the world are refusing to label electric cars as insignificant and once again electric vehicles are at the forefront of many manufacturers’ 2012 car shows and remain to be heralded as the future of cars. Alongside this the ever rising cost of fuel around the world and the increasing acceptance of global warming as a man made and preventable problem continue to serve in the interests of electric cars. People around the world are already starting to give up their gas guzzling cars and make a switch to those more with more economic fuel consumption and lesser environment impact and the electric car so far appears to be the next logical step in this direction. Despite its tumultuous history, so far it seems that the future of electric cars, whilst not 100% guaranteed, does seem bright.

Finding the perfect family car is no easy task. When considering which car is right for their family, parents need to consider various features that would not necessarily be a number one priority for everyone else. With features such as affordability, safety and size being acknowledged as some of the most important features for a good family car, the modern day parent has some important decisions to make

Room

A key feature of any good family car is that is has more than enough space for both the whole family and all of their luggage. A family car needs to seat up to 4 or even 5 people and still have enough space for items such as groceries, school bags, musical instruments and sports equipment, which is why size matters. As a general rule parents should always look ensure that their family car has at least 1-2 extra seats than required to ensure that there will be enough space for any situation.

Car Safety Ratings

Each year the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration carries out in depth crash tests on new vehicles and releases an official report on their performance. Following these tests, each new car that is sold is given a star rating out of five regarding its safety. It is imperative that any car purchased for family use has, at the very least, a four out of five safety rating. Another important safety aspect for a good family car is ensuring that the seating is adequate to safely install a car seat for younger children. The design of some cars leads to slanted seats which do not hold child seats as firmly as intended, and this is an important feature that should always be checked before any decision is made on choosing the right family car.

Affordability

The affordability of a car is an important feature when considering what family car to by. It’s important that those with a family are in a stable financial situation and this should not be put in any danger by the choice of car. There are good quality family cars available at both high and low costs and those who are unsure of their financial future should never go for anything out of their budget. Another key aspect of affordability is not just that of the price of the car in regards to the initial purchase but also the cost of fuel for the car. Ensuring that the car is very economical in regards to fuel consumption is very important and should definitely be considering when choosing the right car. There are many important features to look out for when looking for a new car but by using these three major features as a point of reference parents can rest assured that they have the right family car for them.

Buying a used car can always present a bit of a risk, but you can easily avoid potential pitfalls by doing a little research and being patient about making your purchase.

What kind of used car to look for

Before you decide to buy a used car, make sure you have written a list of the things you want out of it. Will you be using it locally for shop runs, or for longer journeys further afield? A smaller car that is more economic would be more suitable for run-around journeys, as this will burn less petrol. Older cars are already at risk of being less economic so when you start your search, look for a vehicle that has higher miles per gallon. When it comes to actually looking at the car, beware of rust on the bodywork. A small patch of rust is ok and should be treated as soon as possible, but anything bigger than a coin could cause costly repairs in the long term. Always test drive the vehicle too in a mix of conditions to see that the engine runs well. Look out for shaking, as this could indicate bad tracking, and in particular, check the brakes. Ask for a full backlog of MOT details, as well as information on when the tires were last repaired. Bare and worn tires won’t just cost money to replace, but could be dangerous too. Lastly, look out for mileage. Annual mileage is around 10,000, so if the age of the car and the mileage don’t tally up well, the car could have been overworked.

How to look after your used car

Once you have chosen what used car to buy, negotiated a good deal and taken your new automobile home, there are certain steps you can take to increase its running life. Keeping tires at the correct psi is vital, as is regular checks of the brakes. Ensure you know what oil the car takes and keep it topped up regularly. Once you have become familiar with the individual needs of your new used car, you can ensure you’ll get a good few years out of it until it’s time to move on to the next one. If you look after it right you might even make your money back!
